When you move your mouse over top of it, you should see the wireless information for the connection.

Since your connection will not be established, there may be an X or SLASH through the icon. Not to worry, setting up this connection is very easy.

First step is to double-click on the icon. This will bring up the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION STATUS window.

Next on this window, click on the PROPERTIES button. This will display another window that reads WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION PROPERTIES on the window bar.

Click on the tab that reads WIRELESS NETWORKS.

Since your network should already be set-up, you can highlight the entry and click on the PROPERTIES button - it will light-up once you select your network.

On this screen and this tab (marked ASSOCIATION) there will be several fields, one of which is called Network name (SSID). This field is not accessible, but will list the name of your network.

Then there is another block of options under WIRELESS NETWORK KEY. This is what you need to update in order to access your secured wireless network.

The first item is the NETWORK AUTHENTICATION. Provided youve kept your PC updated and have all the latest updates and patches, when you click on this list box you will have several options available to you: OPEN, SHARED, WPA and WPA-PSK.

Select the one that you used on your LinkSys WRT54GC wireless access point. Chances are if you followed part 1 of this article then you should select WPA-PSK.

Next you will select the DATA ENCRYPTION method. Choices available to you will be: TKIP or AES.

Once again you will select the one which you selected on your LinkSys WRT54GC wireless access point. TKIP and AES are both as strong, however AES may slow down your internet connection from your PC to the access point since it goes through more encryption methods.

In my experiences I have noticed that when I use TKIP I retain a 108 Mbps speed to the access point, whereas with AES it drops in half to 54 Mbps. However Ive decided to stay with AES.

Once you have selected the appropriate DATE ENCRYPTION method the next step is to select the NETWORK KEY and enter this into two spots: NETWORK KEY and CONFIRM NETWORK KEY.

The network key is the SAME key you entered into your wireless access point (the LinkSys WRT54GC). If this is a long string and youve saved the string (not recommended for long-term, only during your initial set-up and configuration) then you can simply CUT the string from the document and PASTE it into the required fields! Otherwise you will need to manually type in the 63 character string - which may not be an easy task to complete.

Enter the string into the required fields - NETWORK KEY and CONFIRM NETWORK KEY then click on the OK button.

When the previous window opens up (WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION PROPERTIES) click the OK button again.

Finally click CLOSE on the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION STATUS.

It may take a few seconds to a few minutes for your PC to synchronize to the access point, however once it does you will be able to surf the web securely between your PC and your access point. As well, it will be very difficult for the average individual to hack into your wireless connection and steal your broadband access!

It really is that simple, that everyone should be protecting their wireless connection. Not only are you ensuring nobody can use your broadband access, but data that is sent between your PC an the access point is secured as well - you wont be sending out your account details un-encrypted anymore just waiting for someone with the smarts to capture that data and use it for their own means.

Before we finish, would you like to see how many secured or unsecured connections are in your area? Yes, you can see this easily with Windows own tools. Double-click on the icon we mentioned earlier in this article. This will bring up the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION STATUS window.

Click on the VIEW WIRELESS NETWORKS button.

If youve done everything correctly you will not see your connection in the list but you will see all the other connections around you (for those individuals that did not disable the broadcast of their SSID) plus youll be able to see who has encrypted their connection fully and who is using basic encryption.

Those that are using WPA or stronger - those will be tough to crack or hack into. Those that are not - with the right tools (all available freely over the Internet) you could access their wireless connection with a bit of work and steal their broadband access (though I highly recommend that you do not).

Setting the appropriate security measures is very easy, and just common sense. Like you would not leave your bank statement in a public place - you should ensure that your computer(s) are secured to prevent your private information being given to the public.

Get more information about adware, spyware, malware and viruses plus information on wireless wifi theft and securing your wireless connection at http://www.free-adware-spyware-virus-removal.com
Agent Registration
Contact Us
Terms And Conditions
Privacy Policy
Disclaimer
Streamyx Kuala Lumpur
Streamyx Petaling Jaya
Streamyx Puchong
Streamyx Selayang
Streamyx Ampang
Streamyx Cheras
Streamyx Gombak
Streamyx Hulu Klang
Streamyx Kajang
Streamyx Batu Caves

Connecting Your Secured LinkSys WRT54GC To Your Windows XP Laptop Or Desktop

If you followed along with the first article, then you are ready to set-up your PC to access the secure wireless connection.

This article does not go into hardening your PC against other threats, you should always make sure you are using a firewall, virus scanner and/or spam blocking software.

Now that you have successfully configured your LinkSys WRT54GC the next step is to configure your PC so that you can access the secured connection.

This is easy to do, and only requires a few additional steps.

First you should have an icon on your status bar that looks like a computer - it shows the wireless network connection. With sleek lines and light at 102 grams, it is 33 grams lighter than its look-alike, the iPhone.

So they compromised internal memory at only 130MB but it has a micro SD slot for optional memory and word has it, Samsung is in the works for a 12GB transflash drive. Its 3.2 inches touch-screen with 240 x 432 resolution is a thing of beauty itself incorporated with Samsung's award-winning Croix interface system and it is 5 megapixels sharp. The video can play back files in MPEG, VMV, H.263 and H264 format and it has front video for video calling.

Earlier reports stated the Samsung F490 has 5 megapixel camera without autofocus or a flash. Samsung is not stupid and yes, it has both features and can play videos at QVGA resolution at 15 fps. Downloading videos and files is also speedy at 3.6Mbps. It can store 1000 phone numbers, 30 dialed numbers, 30 missed calls and 30 received calls.

And the iPhone may have iTunes to wave over the entire populace but music lovers can still appreciate the F490 with its 3.5mm audio jack. It is also equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 for easier connectivity to peripherals.

And it may not have Wifi (yet) but it can support internet browsing with EDGE modem and a Google Search apps. It's pretty decent. No, it's really quite decent.

So iPhone has a reason to worry. They should know that yes, someone is challenging their supremacy. And Samsung is not about to stop. The F490 has already been released in Europe for around 530 EUROS or roughly 395 pounds. Broadband suppliers are like electricity suppliers, over the years the range of competitors all vying for your business has grown massively. In a test with one postcode I was able to find seven different broadband suppliers in my area, all offering different packages and extras for different prices depending on however much I wanted to spend per month.

Broadband is provided under contracts similar to Mobile Phone contracts, they tend to be 12 month agreements after which you can carry on with your supplier or make the jump to another, a lot of the time with contracts like this people have an overwhelming feeling of apathy and stick with their current supplier to avoid any hassle, providers rely on this to retain your business and you could get better deals elsewhere if you looked around.

This guide is going to go through what to look for if you have had enough with your current supplier and want to explore pastures new, however if you're happy with your service then it is still worth reading on as you never know you may find an area where you could save money or get a bit extra from your provider.

How fast are we going?

First of all you should consider how fast your connection is at the moment, this can be done by using an online Broadband speed test, these websites get two figures: your upload speed and download speed, the latter normally being considerably larger than the former. It's the download speed which is normally referenced in the adverts and brochures of the speed you can expect when you sign up.

Now the number you get back may be vastly different from the advertised speed, say you signed up for a speedy 8MB speed connection it isn't uncommon for the download speed to actually be less than half of that number. Before you go complaining to your supplier there's no point, whilst they are not exactly clear if you look at the detail it says "up to" before the stated speeds, a nasty trick you'll probably think especially if you never actually get the full fat speed you pay for.

The reason for this is that the distance you are from the local telephone exchange affects the strength of your signal, as well as other factors such as the quality of the cabling in your area, the majority of internet cabling in the UK is still copper wiring which can lose signal strength over distance and time. The UK telecommunication companies such as Virgin Media are trying to get new Fibre-Optic cabling rolled out over the country to reduce the degradation in speed and allow for even faster broadband.

How much power is too much power?

As well as checking how fast your connection is, before you commit to a particular package you should consider how much speed you will actually need, whilst there are 50/month packages offering upwards of 10MB speeds you may find that for your household you won't actually need that much speed and could make a valuable saving by selecting a lower speed.

The majority of UK households only use the Internet to check emails, social networking sites and bid on EBay a little. An entry level connection of 2MB would be more than sufficient for this, it could even handle two or three computers through a wireless router as long as all three aren't being used for prolonged periods of time or for more bandwidth hungry services like file sharing or online gaming.

The higher end connections are more suited to so-called "power users" the type of people who download music and videos a lot as well as people who have lots of machines on their home networks. People who play online games like Internet Poker or World of Warcraft are more likely to need a speedy connection, as well as the growing number of games consoles that connect to the internet like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

By now you should have a good idea of how fast your current connection is (if you already have one) and have a better understanding of what speed you need, at this point you should know whether you need more or less speed and have your first criteria for when you want to look at the many suppliers on comparison sites or when looking at the broadband suppliers brochures. The next part of this guide will cover the actual usage of your Internet, the customer services for when/if your service drops and discuss cheap broadband package deals where you could save money by getting your telephone, TV and Broadband all from one supplier.

If you are looking for cheap broadband whether you have an existing provider or not then you can compare broadband deals online. Also if you are thinking about changing your supplier then check your connection using one of the various broadband speed test websites to see whether you are getting your money's worth.
Streamyx Combo
Streamyx
Streamyx TMpoint
Streamyx Online Registration
Register Online%20home%20or%20business
Streamyx
Streamyx Combo
Register Online%20home%20or%20business
Streamyx Installation Guide
Self%20installation%20guide
Self%20installation%20guide
Register Online%20home%20or%20business
#top Home
Register Online%20home%20or%20business
Streamyx

Switching Broadband Suppliers - Getting More Bang For Your Buck - Part One

These days most households have the Internet with most of them getting a DSL line or Broadband for their homes. Everyone is jumping on the internet phone (or ip phone) bandwagon and the promise of cheap phone service for all.

However, like all emerging technologies, the hype sometimes outruns the reality, and while VoIP is certainly a promising new technology that will undoubtedly change the way we think of the telephone, there are still a few bugs in the system. It isnt right or even available for everyone yet, but for many VoIP provides an attractive alternative to traditional phone service.

Lets run down a brief overview of the principal advantages and disadvantages of VoIP.

Advantages of VoIP:

If you have a broadband connection with either DSL or cable, you are able to use VoIP and avail yourself with the principal advantage of VoIP telephone service ?low cost. For a PC-to-PC phone call it can even be no cost to any other computer anywhere in the world (that has VoIP service installed as well, of course). While there is usually a cost to make a PC-to-phone connection, it is usually less than a traditional?long distance call.

Many VoIP service providers will charge a monthly fee allowing you to make unlimited calls within a specified geographical area, with a nominal extra charge for calls outside that set area. For instance, all calls within North America may be included in the monthly fee, with overseas calls costing a bit extra.

For the traveler, VoIP provides the advantage of portability. As long as you have access to a broadband connection ?and they are becoming more and more ubiquitous with each passing year ?you can easily and cheaply keep in touch with family, friends, and business associates. Just pack a headset or ip phone in your bag. Then all you need to do is sign on to your VoIP service and make your call. No worrying about cell phone coverage, roaming, or long distance charges.

This portability is available for phone-to-phone VoIP service as well. Your VoIP service provider will provide you with an internet phone number that follows you wherever you go. Even if youre phone service is based in Seattle and you happen to be in Botswana, you simply plug your ip phone into any broadband connection (perhaps a little more sparse in Botswana) and make your call, just as if you were sitting on your couch in Seattle. IP phones are light and very portable, just like carrying a cell phone, and just try to call home from Botswana on your cell phone!

Many of the same features that youve come to expect as standard with your traditional and cell phone service is available with VoIP service. Services like call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, three-way calling and more are available through your ip phone, usually at no extra charge. You can also send data, as you would expect with a broadband internet connection, like pictures and documents, all while talking on the phone.

Disadvantages of VoIP:

What a great thing VoIP is! Why would anyone still be using traditional phone service? Well, for one thing, most people still dont have a broadband connection, though that number is steadily decreasing. And there are other problems yet with VoIP.

Two of the biggest problems are power interruptions and emergency calls.

When your power goes out, you can still pick up your normal?phone to call the power company to tell them your power just went out. This is because a traditional phone is powered by the phone line. This isnt the case with an ip phone. If the power goes out, then there is nothing to power your internet connection or your ip phone. A workaround is to use battery backups or power generators to keep you VoIP service powered, but that is certainly more of a hassle than just picking up your phone and having it externally powered.

An even more serious concern is that of emergency 911 calls. With a traditional phone, a 911 call is quickly traced to its origin and routed to the nearest call center where the operator will be able to see your location on his or her computer screen. This is not the case with VoIP. It is not possible to determine where a VoIP call is originating from, making the use of VoIP for emergency calls less than ideal. To solve this problem, there is an emerging standard known as e911?that should one day satisfactorily address this issue.

There are also issues with VoIP sound quality and reliability. Just like any data sent over the internet, it is sent through the network scrambled into packets? Email and other documents sent over the internet are easily reassembled?at the other end for a seamless transmission. Due to the real-time nature of voice communication, this reassembly process becomes more of a problem with VoIP. In order to minimize the delay of the voice connection, some data packets may occasionally need to be dropped?if they dont arrive in time, resulting in short periods of silence in the audio stream.

The amount of dropped data depends on the distance and speed of the connection. High traffic networks may experience more dropouts, especially at times of peak usage. One workaround that service providers can use is to create dedicated data paths for audio transmission.

Given the growth and increasing popularity of VoIP, it seems that all these disadvantages will be overcome in time. Now is the time that the major service providers ?isps and telcoms ?are using their formidable resources to work through the VoIP bugs. It is estimated that as soon as 2007 most of the kinks will be ironed out and VoIP should receive widespread consumer acceptance.

Stay tuned!

Stay tuned! A ballpark US$200B down the road and 3G still seeks validation. But the establishment is on its side allowing the 3G bus to careen from country to country leaving a trail of red ink. However, just one ISP blunders with WiFi deployment in American cities and the Inquisition is back.

To understand better the brouhaha hark back to 2004 when Verizon launched a political broadside against Wireless Philadelphia. Demonstrating just what clout means Verizon got Pennsylvania Governor Ed Randell to sign a law barring MuniWireless initiatives unless the municipality or local body first offered the incumbent service provider an opportunity to deploy its own network. That the incumbent had all these past years to deploy a broadband network and didnt simply means irony does not trump political muscle.

Then a funny thing happens. There was a groundswell of protest from the citizenry making the good Governor rapidly backtrack resulting in a last-minute deal allowing Wireless Philadelphia to proceed and with EarthLink subsequently winning the contract to deploy. MuniWireless was now officially in the telecom establishments cross-hairs. Taking on City Hall is one thing. But to take on the corporate telecoms establishment, groundswells and big cojones arent enough. Especially when the ISP depends on the same incumbent to provide fixed line connectivity to WiFi base stations.

In 2005 Diana Neff ?the lady behind Wireless Philadelphia ?explained its economics to me:
- In lieu of Capex related payments, the city government becomes the anchor tenant.
- Power, locations for base stations provided for free.
- ISP free to offer internet access into homes , offices at commercial rates.
- Free Internet access in open parks.
- Subsidized Internet access to weaker sections.

Thats the economic gist. Is its net wherewithal enough to rumble with fully amortized copper running voice and owned by an incumbent able to cherry picks where to put its DSLAMs? Id say, barely. Just about. If all goes well. Now, if the municipalities were to ante up to also mitigate the Capex burden in addition to becoming anchor tenants, we could have a robust stand-off.

Here is the core argument on the economics.
- Nothing is free.
- Recurring revenues are a bitch to kick-off. To generate a stream that makes sense is usually a three year wait. This is the incumbents huge advantage. His three year wait occurred in the Triassic era.
- If the municipalities pay for equipment and become anchor tenants, MuniWireless has money then to wait out the gestation period required for monthly recurring revenues to stack up.
- If the municipalities are not going to pay for equipment, they need to ante up properly as anchor tenants. If neither, the MuniWireless operation goes bust.
- Again, the same economics do not apply to a cellular player because the 2G networks are comfortably amortized and the service ubiquitous.
- Unbundled services from the incumbent are a bedrock for MuniWireless economics. Without it the whole enterprise remains fraught.
- Lastly, look at the blood around 3G to understand what it takes to launch a new service, even when the service is allowed to rest on 2G crutches. In comparison, WiFis burn is peanuts and all it takes for the economics to work is at a minimum, strict & wholehearted adherence to the Neff model.

Its safe to say that besides a continued reliance on incumbent backhaul, the basics of the Neff formula werent adhered to as ISPs like EarthLink sought to light up Americas urban landscapes. In a rush to move away from a dying dial-up business deals were signed up at the same velocity they are currently unwinding. We watched from the sidelines as each new deal resulted in one more concession and then another and another thrusting a precedence on the rest of the industry. By 2007, cities were refusing anchor tenancies and delivering a double whammy instead by demanding free services if the ISP were to be allowed to address the city population.

MuniWireless?teething problems then have more to do with possible economic mismanagement and incumbent hostility than with WiFi technology. The same WiFi for example, is working wonderfully for T-Mobile in their WiFi@home service linking your home WiFi and the thousands of T-Mobile WiFi hotspots to their cellular network. This service is WiFi's wedge into the telecom establishment's door.

So someone may have screwed with MuniWireless but WiFi isnt the perp.

Seeing T-Mobiles intent theres more to WiFi than WiFi. I wrote in 2005 about patching WiFi to cellular networks suggesting UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) as a method for cellular companies to co-opt WiFi and bring true broadband into the realm without investing in a questionable 3G. Kudos to T-Mobile for doing it two years later.

But WiFi-cellular links are already pass. If the cellular companies have been too slow/reluctant/hostile to the technology doesnt mean the technology wasnt there. WiFi is the tip of an OFDMA iceberg and the WiFi-WiMax nexus is whats going to shake up the networks next. One doesnt expect to see a WiMax operator mulling too much on the pros & cons of connecting to WiFi at the edges over a common IP back end. The first casualty of such ubiquitous footprints with high speed mobile wireless broadband access to the internet is going to be band-aid applications like Blackberry. Whether you sit at Starbucks, walk up to your car with your Frappuchino or drive off home, you can directly access your email server/service at a minimum 2-5mbps.

There are some very dedicated people working hard at IEEE under the IEEE P802.21 working group to develop standards for these vertical (cellular ?WiFi) and horizontal (WiFi-WiMax) nexuses. The standard is slated for finalization by 2008 at which point WiFi begins its real role as the owner of the edge. As we old telecom hands have learnt at great expense, thats where the winning lottery ticket is hidden.

For a non-incumbent, to make sense of a WiFi-centric business one needs to adhere to the economic arguments made in these article. That keeps the business afloat while you spread your network one home after another, one caf after another. Your intent is to have as large a footprint as possible before you make that call to T-Mobile.
Streamyx type='text'>WiFi In The Cross-Hairs

In 1999, the European countries kicked off plans to auction spectrum for 3G.

Streamyx Online Registration
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Malaysia
Streamyx
Wireless Streamyx
Streamyx modem
Streamyx ISP
Ku Ez
Bighairtightpants
Blog
C Ez
?gclid=cpyq7 Nflzmcfqm3egodak Dtg
?gclid=cpzagd Ynzmcfrcdewodfhojqq
?gclid=cmybvrglnpmcfqyaewodyg9lra
Noimagea G

WiFi In The Cross-Hairs

In 1999, the European countries kicked off plans to auction spectrum for 3G. type='text'>What Is Wireless? What Is ADSL2 And ADSL2+? What Is Satellite?

Wireless is the new modern technology and is becoming very popular with prices reducing and the connection speed increasing.

Wireless refers to communications between two points requiring no cables/wire.

You can purchase wireless routers that enable you to use Ethernet or wireless, or wireless access points.

The advantage of wireless is you are able to be anywhere in range with a laptop or computer and receive a connection.

What is ADSL2 and ADSL2+?

This is where ADSL took its leap into a better faster more reliable connection.

ADSL download speeds are usually between the range of 256 to 15000Kbps and upload speeds of 6Kbps to 256Kbps.

ADSL and ADSL2+ use the telephone line same as the old ADSL but transfer data faster and further then before. ADSL users can connect up to 12Mbps depending on how far you are from the exchange, the ISP (internet service provider)

ADSL2+ can offer speeds up to 24Mbps once again depending on how close you are to the exchange, ISP (internet provider)

With benefits like these and connection speeds this fast, you are able to experience movies, audio and even websites in real time with no delay.

What is satellite?

Satellite is another form of fast internet but yet again costs more than broadband and the downloading limits are restricted.

You will need a satellite dish, a phone line and dialup line for uploading data to the internet, so if you dont have 2 phone lines you will not be able to use the phone while surfing the net.

Your computer connects to a satellite dish and you connect up to about 400Kbps

Satellite is generally used when broadband has not been implemented so far, for example mine sites that only have the alternative of dialup or satellite. type='text'>Dial-up Vs. Broadband Video

The decision to pay the extra fees and move from dial-up to broadband usually involves meeting three wants: faster downloads, faster uploads and live streaming video.

The transmission of live streaming video is dependent on bandwidth, video codecs and the ability to transmit as many frames per second as possible. Lets review how these variables effect video on dial-up and broadband.

First a little background on bandwidths and speeds. A lot of people use the terms bandwidth and speeds interchangeably, so its important to clarify the difference. Think of a water pipe. You can get more water through the pipe by increasing the pressure to send it through faster. This increases the speed.? You can also get more water out the end by increasing the size of the pipe. This increases the bandwidth?/p>
When you go from a dial-up ISP to a broadband ISP, you increase the size of the pipe by getting more bandwidth. This way you can get more data through the pipe in the same amount of time, thus allowing faster uploads and downloads. Video is data, too, but good video requires enormous amounts of data. Because of this, video is often referred to as a bandwidth hog. When you increase the bandwidth, you allow more video through in the same amount of time.

Programmers can use creative and complicated mathematical formulas called algorithms to put the data into packets that allow more packets to go through the pipe. This is comparable to increasing the speed of the water in the pipeline. In the world of video, the algorithm is called a codec. Well known codecs include MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and JPEG.

In order to evaluate codecs, a definition of quality is necessary. The number of frames per second (fps) is usually the objective measurement of video quality. Broadcast quality video?is an overused term that typically means 25 to 35 fps. Independent of theoretical rates, most live video streamed on the internet through broadband is in the range of 10 to 15 fps. Its not like HDTV or like movies in the theater, but it is sufficient for the purpose.

JPEG transmits video like a movie. Each full picture frame from the film strip?is transmitted and viewed. When the individual pictures, called frames, are accumulated together rapidly, they appear to display motion, just like a film strip.

MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and others dont send a full frame each time. They send whats called an I-Frame, which is a full frame, only once in a while. In between the I-Frames, they only send the video data that change. So, if the image is from a fixed camera in a room where someone is walking, the wall doesnt change, so the image of the wall is not sent with each frame. Only the spots where the person is moving are transmitted between the I-frames. This eliminates a lot of data without changing the quality of the video. So, with the same amount of data, the end result can be more frames per second. This is why MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are said to offer higher quality video.

What is bandwidth? Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be sent in a second, typically measured in kilobits per second (kbps). Did you ever notice how TV reporters on satellite phones sometimes look weird? They are usually transmitting at very low bandwidths of less than 5 fps. Have you asked yourself why cell phone voice plans typically can only transmit still video images, or video clips that are so slow that motion is not apparent? Thats because their maximum bandwidth is 9.6 kbps, also considered very low.

Cell phone data plans and dial-up telephone service fall in the less than 56 kbps range. Broadband is above 56 kbps. Cable companies typically offer it in 128 kbps or 256 kbps increments. However, these are maximum rates. For example, dial-up telephone usually fluctuates between 30 and 45 kbps in the real world, even though it is theoretically 56 kbps.

MPEG-4 and its many variants are pretty much the standard for sending video over broadband. Many different companies have developed their own unique twist to try to take into account variations in bandwidth that result in interruptions, pixilation and video tears. But, with a 256 kbps bandwidth, video can stream on average at 10 to 15 fps, and may even peak at 20 or 25 fps depending on the fluctuation. Unfortunately, on dial-up, the number of frames per second that these standard codecs can deliver is less than 5 frames per second, and often only 1 frame per second.

Some new video codecs are allowing frame rates of 12 fps over dial-up services, in many ways comparable to the video offered over broadband. This has expanded the ability to transmit quality video through dial-up.

To summarize the water pipe analogy, different video codecs can increase the water flow by increasing the number of frames per second at the end of the pipe without increasing the size of the pipe. Switching from dial-up to broadband is a way to increase the size of the pipe so that more frames per second can come out the end of the pipe.

Cost is always a consideration, with dial-up being less expensive. Also, many people worldwide do not have the availability of broadband, so dial-up is their only option.

Comet Video Technologies develops products and services for the low bandwidth transmission of video through satellites, cell voice plans, cell data plans, telephone dial-up and broadband. http://www.cometvt.com

Readers have permission to duplicate and distribute the above article in its entirety. Now, let's start to check broadband speed results.

Results Menu

You will easily find a menu on top of the website after you finish your broadband speed check.

* My Results: Will show all your broadband speed check result as a history list.

* My Summary: Will analyze your test result history and give you some summary information.

* Global Stats: We will discuss this part later.

Results History

Firstly, you will see all your broadband speed check result history on the list like the following picture.

This result will show your ISP company name and IP address. This list has 8 columns which have all the detail information about your broadband speed check result.

* Date: Your testing date

* IP Address: Your Computer's IP Address

* Download: Your computer's Download speed

* Upload: Upload speed from your computer

* Latency: the response time after you click on the "Test" button.

* Server: The Test server you have chosen. e.g. San Francisco, CA

* Distance: The distance between test server and your home computer.

* Share: See whether this result is shared with others or not.

Compare Results

Moreover, you can also compare or filter your previous broadband speed Check result.

There is a toolbar above the Test result panel.

* Hide Result Before: this will let you filter your broadband speed Check result by date.

* Preferred Server: You can select the server around the world.

* Timezone: Select your own time zone.

* Date Format: Select your preferred date format.

* Distance Measure: You can choose "miles" or "km" here.

* Speed Measure: kilobits/kilobyte, megabits/megabyte. (Note: 1 megabit = 106 = 1,000,000 bits which is equal to 125,000 bytes or 125 kilobytes.)

The megabit is most commonly used when referring to data transfer rates in network speeds, e.g. a 100 Mbit/s (megabit per second) Fast Ethernet connection. --- Wikipedia.org

Share Your Detail Results

Speedtest will display a detail panel result when you click on every record. But the cool thing is that you can share your result as well.

Simply copy the text in the following textboxes and put it into your blog as html format, then you can share your broadband speed Check Result with your friends.

Wish you have fun when you check broadband speed.

Tony Joy, a blogger who wants to introduce Broadband basics for beginners.

Click here for his Broadband Speedup Blog
Streamyx Online Registration
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Malaysia
Streamyx
Wireless Streamyx
Streamyx modem
Streamyx ISP
Ku Ez
Bighairtightpants
Blog
C Ez
?gclid=cpyq7 Nflzmcfqm3egodak Dtg
?gclid=cpzagd Ynzmcfrcdewodfhojqq
?gclid=cmybvrglnpmcfqyaewodyg9lra
Noimagea G

Cheapest Internet and Phone Service

Do you still have landline phone service? Still stuck on dial-up Internet service because you think it's cheaper than broadband? What if I said you can essentially get unlimited local plus long distance phone service and broadband Internet for the same price or less than what you're paying for those so called cheaper services?

Ask yourself this: How much am I paying just for local phone service? Are you including all of the taxes fees and sir charges? If so, you're probably paying fairly close to 50 dollars a month just in local phone service charges. Is it fair to say you pay at least 10 dollars a month in long distance including fees?

Either way you cut it, if you are paying more than 60 dollars for phone service each month you're getting ripped off even if you think you're getting a pretty good deal. How about dial-up ISP? Do you have one of those super cheap dial-up Internet providers that only charge around 10 dollars a month for ISP? Good deal right? Wrong!

Of course I can't sit here and figure each persons monthly billing, but most of you reading this who have landline phone service, make long distance phone calls either by calling card, or a long distance plan, and use dial-up Internet service are likely paying at least 70 dollars or more per month between the three services.

What would you do if you could get high speed Internet, plus unlimited local plus long distance calling for that same 70 dollars? Would you just nod wisely and still keep your landline phone service and slow dial-up Internet? Would you keep swearing by the same cheap calling cards for long distance?

Did you know that most people in the U.S. can get broadband Internet either by cable or DSL for less than 50 dollars a month? Did you know that by having that broadband Internet service you can take advantage of unlimited local and long distance phone service for less than 20 dollars per month?

In effect, you could be getting super fast Internet connections and unlimited calling for the same price, and often times less than what you are paying for service right now. Even if it averages out to be about the same price, you're still getting better service for the same amount of money!

Of course, more often than not, the combination of broadband Internet, and broadband phone service is cheaper than the cost of landline phone service plus the cost of dial-up. Sure, the price of broadband Internet alone is going to cost more than dial-up, but factor in the savings with broadband phone service and the combination of the two are going to be much cheaper than landline phone service plus dial-up.

Quite literally, the cheapest phone service or cheapest Internet service is going to be broadband Internet like DSL or cable broadband plus broadband telephone service. Try as you might, you just cannot get a better deal than that. You've always wanted to "stick it" to your phone company, and modern technology has finally provided you a way to do just that.

Daymon Hoag is the founder of Cheapest Service where you can shop for Broadband - High Speed Internet - Cable - DSL - Wireless
Streamyx Online Registration
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Malaysia
Streamyx
Wireless Streamyx
Streamyx modem
Streamyx ISP
Ku Ez
Bighairtightpants
Blog
C Ez
?gclid=cpyq7 Nflzmcfqm3egodak Dtg
?gclid=cpzagd Ynzmcfrcdewodfhojqq
?gclid=cmybvrglnpmcfqyaewodyg9lra
Noimagea G

Cheapest Internet and Phone Service

Do you still have landline phone service? You've always wanted to "stick it" to your phone company, and modern technology has finally provided you a way to do just that.

Daymon Hoag is the founder of Cheapest Service where you can shop for Broadband - High Speed Internet - Cable - DSL - Wireless
Customer Care Bg3
Ez
?gclid=cnt3pobslzmcfqecewodgvijua
?gclid=cp2f Bhulzmcfqsdewodjjo1tq
Customer Care Bg2
?gclid=cl6 7z3glzmcfq2xggodngxv2g
Terms And Conditions
Terms And Conditions
?gclid=coyo4vvbk5mcfqyaewodif2etg
?gclid=cmvr1ooim5mcfqc3egod4jt1rg
Storev01 Ptalk5
?gclid=cpkg0mo0mjmcfro1egod2g5nqw
Terms And Conditions
Storev01 Ptalk5
Klang

Wireless Broadband Internet - Do I Need A Router? Which Protocols, Is It Safe?

Wireless broadband internet uses a radio link to make the internet connection which means that the computer is more portable than if it were plugged in to a cable or modem. The internet connection works for home or business use and uses the radio link to convey the internet service between the location of the customer and the service provider's facility. Wireless broadband internet service can be mobile or it can be fixed.

In more rural areas, wireless broadband internet can be used. In these sparsely populated areas, DSL or cable modem services would be extremely costly to provide. The wireless speeds in these particular areas are usually comparable to DSL and cable modem. Usually, though, an external antenna is required.

Wireless hot spots are becoming increasingly popular. You can find these fixed wireless broadband internet connections at city parks, book stores, coffee shops, airports and other public locations. A hot spot usually uses a relatively short range technology. This technology will provide speeds up to 54 Mbps. Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity technology may also be used with DSL or cable modem services. This is done quite often to connect devices to the internet in a business or home. A broadband connection is often used.

Wireless broadband services are also becoming mobile as they are now being offered by mobile telephone service providers. These types of services are usually best suited for customers who are very mobile. The service requires that use of a special PC card with a built in antenna. This plugs into the laptop computer of the user. This method does usually offer lower speeds.

Depending on the type of wireless internet that you get, you may need additional equipment. Some services require the use of an Ethernet bridge while others require the use of a router. When you shop for your wireless internet services you need to ask what additional equipment will be required for your wireless to operate correctly.

Get more information and advices about Broadband Internet at Smart Advices.
?gclid=cookyiornpmcfq01egodbtcwqq
Register Selectmode
Disclaimer
?gclid=cktrmfymojmcfro1egod2g5nqw
?gclid=cizc4okgmzmcfqe3egodtu0sqq
Storev00 Newsl Sub
Maxis Ez
Packet 10
?gclid=ck2cupggh5mcfrqaewodixs9ta
?gclid=couo0465mjmcfqm2egodonr6ra
Bgmusic T
?gclid=cmw94t Jmjmcfrqdewodfgrhqw
Callerr Thumb
?gclid=cou Zef2nzmcfqsyewodjxctra
Bgmusic T

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://business91794.blogspot.com/2008/05/wireless-broadband-internet-do-i-need.html' title='Wireless Broadband Internet - Do I Need A Router? Internet Connection

To route your calls over the Internet instead of over the existing telephone fixed landlines, you need to have a powerful Internet connection and equipment to connect and communicate with.

If your small business is using a DSL or cable modem for your Internet connectivity, you need to research the bandwidth needed for of VoIP communications (Voice over Internet Protocol).

If you are one of 1-2 employees, then DSL or cable should work fine to meet your needs. DSL and cable modems are not ideal for VoIP, but they do work acceptably well for a very small office of just one or two people.

If your office grows to more than 2 users, your small business telephone system needs to grow also. It is time to consider a more robust Internet connection.

The standard DSL and cable modems offer you a quicker download than upload speed. This generally works fine for general computer usage, but it won't work so well for voice communication.

So, you will need to make sure that your Internet connection can support both the upload and download speeds that you need to have clear and consistent voice communication.

2. How Much Bandwidth?

The industry standard is enough bandwidth for about 1/3 rd of your employees to be on the telephone at the same time ... so if you have 30 lines, you should then have enough bandwidth for 10 to be used at any one time. With a business of this size, your small business telephone system will usually require a T1 connection to the Internet.

One of the best things you can do is to work with a provider who can support both your VoIP and Internet connection needs. This will insure that you have the bandwidth necessary to get both your calls and data needs taken care of.

3. Hub vs. Switch

In addition to bandwidth to the Internet, internally you should be using switches on your network rather than hubs. While hubs are fine for electronic data transmission, the transmission of voice over your network necessitates the need for switches to be used.

4. Media Gateways

If you already have a small business telephone system in place, such as a small PBX system, you can purchase a device called a "media gateway" to connect your existing phone system to the Internet without having to replace all of your phones and equipment.

This will save you money from the equipment that would have to be replaced to upgrade to VoIP services.

Moving your small business telephone system over to VoIP requires some pre-planning and consultation with an Internet provider. An experienced provider can offer the equipment and the know-how to make your move to VoIP quickly and without any inconvenience for your employees.

Converting to a VoIP small business telephone system, Louisiana and Mississippi businesses look for experts with advanced technology for their offices. When you wanted to surf the web, send and receive emails, post files to a web site, or just play around on AOL, you accessed it all through your telephone line using a modem and a standard dial-up account. Most of us didnt mind because we realized that the slow speeds we endured were shared by everyone else. The notion of Internet speed envy?had yet to emerge.

Well, those days are long gone! Nowadays, in ever-increasing numbers, people are dumping their old dial-up modems and those slow connections for a much faster Internet experience through DSL, cable, and satellite technologies. In 2002, only 21% of Internet users had broadband connections at home. As of late 2005, that number had risen to 53% [Source: Pew Internet & American Life Project].

For the remaining 47% still using dial-up access, its often because they live where DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and cable technologies are not available. Yes, there are still lots of rural areas that do not have access to either. Among those who do have access to broadband connections, it is most often older and poorer Americans who choose to keep dial-up access.

Which Internet Access Option is Best for You?

You may be wondering which broadband solution is the best option. While much depends on whats available in your area, for many users it comes down to a personal choice, centered on convenience, speed, and cost. Lets examine the various technologies and the relative advantages of each.

Cable Internet Access

Using your homes existing cable television lines, you can get Internet access included for an additional fee. Expect a large speed increase versus dial-up access. In fact, in many cases cable Internet access is the fastest alternative. Installation is usually completed quickly with just one visit from your cable companys technicians. You will also need a cable modem (supplied by the cable company in virtually every instance, but can be purchased separately as well).

Clearly, the biggest advantage of going with cable access is speed. All things being equal, it is the fastest of the three broadband alternatives, with a top speed of 10 Mbps (Megabits per second). Having said that, cable speeds can be substantially reduced if you share a local network with a lot of other subscribers. People living in densely packed areas, or locations where the cable company has a lot of users on the same network, will only realize a fraction of that top speed. Its a good idea to call your cable provider and ask some pointed questions about these issues before you order. Better yet, ask neighbors who have cable Internet what kind of speed they get.

DSL Internet Access

Digital Subscriber Line access utilizes your existing telephone line in an innovative way to greatly increase your Internet speeds. While cable is usually faster, DSL is substantially speedier than traditional dial-up access and offers a much-improved experience for a modest increase in cost. Installation is quick, usually only requiring a simple change at your homes phone box outside of the house by a phone company technician. You will need a DSL modem, which is included at no extra charge by most providers when you sign an extended service contract.

If you live where DSL is not currently available, be patient. Major providers like Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T are spreading their coverage areas quickly. Even many rural areas can expect to have DSL access in the coming months.

The two big advantages of choosing DSL are cost and speed. You will only need to get the modem and follow some simple instructions to configure it. If you agree to a one-year contract with your phone service provider (most major carriers), the modem will cost you nothing. And the service itself is generally in the $15-$40 per month range, making it a good bargain.

Speed is a bit trickier with DSL. It is slower than cable (top speed is about 6 Mbps), and the major providers offer different packages that limit speeds based on the price you pay per month. To further muddy the waters, DSL is whats known as a distance limited?technology. This means that how far you live from the nearest telephone company switching station determines your actual speed. Those living within a few yards will experience the highest speeds, while those at the other end of your street or block may only get half that speed. As with cable, call your local phone provider and ask questions about the various services and what kind of actual speed you can expect based on your exact physical location in relation to the switching station for your street or neighborhood. If you have a next-door neighbor with DSL, ask what his or her experience has been, as yours will probably be very similar.

Satellite Internet Access

Satellite Internet access uses a small mounted dish and group of electronics to send and receive data through satellites orbiting the Earth over the equator. Users must have a clear view of the Southern sky (in the U.S.) from the face of the dish, unobstructed by trees, buildings, and other obstacles. Coaxial cabling connects the outdoor equipment to indoor send-and-receive equipment that then connects to your computer through a standard USB connector or network card.

The major advantage with satellite Internet access is faster connection speeds for people who live where cable and DSL are not available. Users can expect to download data at a rate that is about 10 to 30 times faster than dial-up access. While satellite Internet connections are significantly faster than dial-ups, they are slower than cable and DSL, and should not be the first choice for those who do have cable or DSL available to them. Satellite access is also more expensive than DSL or cable and can suffer outages when the weather turns ugly. Clearly, the other two are better options unless you live where they are not available.

The Bottom Line

Overall, cable and DSL are terrific broadband Internet access solutions for the majority of people who live in urban or suburban locations. Satellite access adds a much-needed alternative for folks living in rural areas, completing the coverage area for the vast majority of America and Canada. While proponents of both cable and DSL have legitimate arguments in favor of their services, deciding between them should be made on an individual basis, determined by the actual speeds and costs for each in your location.

If speed is your top priority and you live where there are not a lot of other users sharing the local cable network, go with cable (especially if your neighbors report high speeds and good service). If not, look into DSL. If cost is your main consideration and speed isnt as important, a lower-end DSL service will probably be a better fit, as long as you dont live too far from the nearest telephone switching station. Finally, if you live in a rural area, satellite Internet access may be right up your alley, especially if you long for faster downloads and web site surfing.

If you do live in a rural area where cable or DSL are not an option then your best bet would be to go with the new WildBlue Satellite System.
Streamyx Online Registration
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Malaysia
Streamyx
Wireless Streamyx
Streamyx modem
Streamyx ISP
Ku Ez
Bighairtightpants
Blog
C Ez
?gclid=cpyq7 Nflzmcfqm3egodak Dtg
?gclid=cpzagd Ynzmcfrcdewodfhojqq
?gclid=cmybvrglnpmcfqyaewodyg9lra
Noimagea G
